As part of the EU-funded Micro-GEAR project the key regional workshop titled "Micro-credentials for Higher Education Systems of Georgia and Armenia: South Caucasus Lighthouse Project" was held at Yerevan State University bringing together higher education experts, policymakers, and international partners to strengthen micro-credential systems across the region.
The workshop brought together representatives from higher education institutions, quality assurance agencies, and international experts to exchange best practices and strengthen regional capacity for micro-credential implementation.
The event began with opening remarks by Dr. Rafayel Barkudaryan, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs at YSU, highlighting the need for flexible learning pathways and international cooperation. The workshop featured key sessions on Armenia’s roadmap for micro-credential standardization, YSU’s integration strategies, insights from UC3M on transitioning from MOOCs to micro-credentials, pedagogical approaches presented by Università Europea di Roma with CIMEA and a co-creation workshop led by Universität des Saarlandes.
The event served as a platform for sharing best practices, developing regional cooperation, and aligning with European standards on flexible, lifelong learning recognition. Stakeholders from Georgia and Armenia expressed a strong commitment to continuing joint initiatives to foster innovation in higher education.
